Free Thursdays at Rome’s Casa di Goethe Rome’s Casa da Goethe is offering visitors free entry on Thursday evenings from 15 December to 5 January. The “Giovedì da Goethe” initiative sees the museum open from 18.00-20.00, with free guided tours at 18.30, without a requirement to book, on 15, 22 and 29 December, and 5 January.
Situated on Via del Corso in the city centre, the museum opened in 1997 in the same rooms that once hosted Johann Wolfgang von Goethe (1749-1832) during his journey to Italy (1786-1788), along with the painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein and other German artists.
There is a permanent exhibition “Goethe in Italia”, dedicated to Goethe’s journey and his time in Rome. The museum regularly holds temporary exhibitions on German and Italian-related topics, such as the current “Piranesi, Rembrandt delle Rovine” show, as well as talks, readings and cultural discussions.
Casa di Goethe, Via del Corso 18 (Piazza del Popolo), tel. 0632650412, www.casadigoethe.it. 10.00-18.00. Mon closed.
