Public transport strikes in Rome

Rome faces disruption to its public transport services due to a number of strikes between Thursday 15 and Friday 16 December against the new government's economic policies.

On 15 December a regional protest affects the suburban Cotral bus service from 08.30-17.00 and 20.00 until end of service.

On 16 December a 24 hour strike affects all of Rome's public transport including buses, trams, metro and light-rail services, and is scheduled to take place from 08.30-17.00 and from 20.00 until end of service. Also at risk are the city's 27 night buses between Thursday and Friday morning.

Two other eight-hour strikes have been called by trade unions on 16 December in Rome and Lazio. Local public and private transport companies in the Lazio region are striking from 08.30-16.30, while another strike takes place at the same time and involves suburban bus services in Rome.

The Ferrovie dello Stato, the state holding which manages the Italian train network, has called a 24 hour-strike starting on Thursday 15 December at 21.00 and finishing at the same time the next day, however regional trains most-used by commuters are guaranteed to run as normal from 06.00-9.00 and from 18.00-21.00.
