Rome extends anti-alcohol measures

Rome's anti-alcohol measures have been extended until 17 March, after the previous ban expired on 16 December.

The order prohibits the take-away sale of alcohol from bars and clubs from 23.00 until close of business, seven days a week. It is also illegal to consume alcohol between 23.00 and 06.00 in certain public areas in the centre as well as on public transport. However there is an exemption relating to public New Year’s Eve events organised on the night from 31 December to 1 January.

The first three-month ban was introduced on 1 April and, following a number of high-profile alcohol-related public order incidents in the city over the summer, the order has been rolled over every three months since.

The ban predominantly affects the city centre districts: I, II, III, VI, XI, as well as XIII (south Rome) and XX (north Rome). For further information see www.comune.roma.it.
